Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)
Rhinoplasty is a common facial plastic surgery procedure that can reshape both cosmetic and functional aspects of the nose. Typically, nose surgery is performed to improve the appearance of the nose and/or to improve nasal breathing by correcting a deviated septum. Rhinoplasty is a highly customized surgery that can accomplish a wide range of specific goals.
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is performed at a hospital by board-certified plastic surgeon Kevin Cook, MD. Dr. Cook employs his extensive experience and knowledge of facial aesthetics to give the nose a more symmetrical shape, while also enhancing the balance among your other facial features. For patients at Midland Plastic Surgery Center who have difficulty breathing through the nose due to a structural abnormality or injury, Dr. Cook can also correct these issues and increase airflow through the nasal passages.
With his advanced approach to rhinoplasty in Midland, Dr. Cook can help you meet your goals with natural-looking results. If you want more information about rhinoplasty, we encourage you to review the education sections provided below or contact our practice:

Your Rhinoplasty Consultation
During your initial consultation, Dr. Cook will thoroughly analyze your medical history, perform a physical exam, and determine whether you are an ideal candidate for rhinoplasty surgery. These one-on-one conversations give Dr. Cook an opportunity to listen to your unique concerns and goals.
By taking the time to inform you of all your options, Dr. Cook enables you to make educated choices about your health and body. If you are deemed a good candidate for rhinoplasty, Dr. Cook can then design a customized surgical approach to achieve the results you desire.
Asian and Ethnic Rhinoplasty
When performing rhinoplasty for certain ethnicities, there are specific approaches and advanced techniques Dr. Cook can use to deliver results that are consistent with the patient’s unique aesthetic goals and appearance. Dr. Cook has extensive experience performing rhinoplasty for men and women who represent a broad range of ethnicities, and he is incredibly knowledgeable about how to reshape and refine the nose without eliminating key characteristics of patients’ identities.
The aim of ethnic rhinoplasty is to help each patient achieve a more aesthetically harmonious version of themselves, rather than making them look like entirely different people. If your ethnic background plays a role in your rhinoplasty goals, you can trust that Dr. Cook will be sensitive to your concerns and can develop a custom surgical plan just for your needs.
Revision Rhinoplasty
For patients who are unsatisfied with the results of a prior rhinoplasty performed by another surgeon, Dr. Cook offers secondary rhinoplasty surgery (also called revision rhinoplasty). Due to scar tissue, poor healing, and/or other complicating factors, revision rhinoplasty is considered to be a very technically demanding surgery that should only be performed by the most skilled of plastic surgeons.

Fortunately for our patients, Dr. Cook’s craniofacial fellowship training, advanced surgical skills, and rhinoplasty experience enable him to carry out the difficult aesthetic and reconstructive corrections required during revision rhinoplasty. His revision rhinoplasty patients are generally very pleased with the improvements they are able to achieve with regard to both nasal form and function.

If you have undergone a previous rhinoplasty procedure and were not able to achieve the results you wanted, we invite you to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Cook to find out whether revision rhinoplasty surgery is right for you.
Rhinoplasty Procedure
Rhinoplasty is either performed as an “open” or “closed” surgery. With open rhinoplasty, an incision is made beneath the tip of the nose. With closed rhinoplasty, surgical incisions are made completely inside of the nose. In either case, scarring is typically minimal and nearly invisible.

During the consultation process, Dr. Cook can help you determine which rhinoplasty technique may best suit your individual needs. In most cases, rhinoplasty is performed as an outpatient surgery, requires general anesthesia, and takes about two hours to complete.
Recovery and Results
Some degree of bruising and swelling can be expected immediately following your rhinoplasty. Many patients are able to return to work or other daily activities within three to five days after the procedure. In seven to ten days, patients typically feel more comfortable and confident going out in public.

However, it may take several months for all of the swelling to go down and for the final results to be apparent. Dr. Cook recommends you avoid strenuous exercise and activity for four to six weeks to aid in the healing process. Rhinoplasty can provide beautiful results that look natural, helping you renew your facial aesthetic and reduce self-consciousness about the appearance of your nose.
Rhinoplasty Cost
The exact price of rhinoplasty surgery depends upon the unique surgical plan developed for the patient. For this reason, it is important to attend a personal consultation with Dr. Cook to receive a precise cost estimate. Your overall cost for rhinoplasty is typically determined by:
-
The complexity of your rhinoplasty procedure
-
Whether this is a primary or secondary rhinoplasty surgery
-
Surgeon’s fees
-
Anesthesiology and hospital fees
-
Postoperative medications
-
Any applicable medical insurance coverage
It is also important to be aware of additional considerations that cause pricing variations between practices. Both the experience level of the plastic surgeon (more experienced surgeons tend to charge higher fees) and the geographic location of the facility can impact cost.
Insurance Coverage
In certain situations, your medical insurance may cover all or a portion of your rhinoplasty surgery. This typically includes rhinoplasty procedures that are reconstructive in nature and/or performed to correct impaired nasal breathing. When your consultation is complete, a knowledgeable member of our office team can review your insurance benefits and help you obtain a definitive answer on whether your rhinoplasty qualifies for coverage.
